Elon Musk rode on a bike with a catapult and swore his way through a presentation where he showed off ‘the world’s best car’. He also received special permission to use government money

Elon Musk is still not scared of publicity. In an event promoting his company Tesla and Tesla’s latest innovation the car was delivered to reporters in Chicago in a dock built by the US Navy. Musk also rode on a bike, with a catapult, across the grey rocks on the dock. He swore his way through a presentation where he showed off “the world’s best car”. He also received special permission to use government money.

It was the latest event in a publicity tour Musk has perfected. In total there have been 48 press conferences in 19 countries, and Musk has enjoyed extra attention for his behaviour in the face of some financial and personal struggles. In 2018 Tesla recorded a full year of losing money for the first time. In December the NY Post revealed that Musk had been given permission to use government money to buy and build his custom-made submarine for the Thai boys trapped in a cave. But on 7 January this week Musk tweeted about the likelihood of a financing deal to solve the Thai issue.
